Achilles Tendon Rupture

When the Achilles tendon is stressed beyond its ability to adapt, a partial tear or a complete rupture of the tendon can occur. A podiatrist will examine the Achilles tendon to determine the extent of the injury and whether or not surgery is indicated.

Many Achilles tendon injuries can be treated nonsurgically with immobilization, physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory medication. Surgical repair is indicated when conservative treatment fails or the injury is severe enough that surgery is the best option.
