Calf Pain

Calf pain can be a result of over-exercise, a flatfoot condition, or could be a symptom of a more serious problem like poor blood flow or a blood clot (deep venous thrombosis, or DVT). Calf pain should not be ignored; the cause needs to be determined and treated.

For over-exercise, rest, ice, NSAIDs, and stretching exercises can prove beneficial.

For a flatfoot condition, a custom orthotic can provide proper support along with control of foot function.

For poor blood flow, exercise and oral medications like Plavix may help in the less severe cases, with vascular surgery indicated for the more advanced cases.
