Heel Pain

One of the most common problems we see, heel pain can occur in children (calcaneal apophysitis), adults (plantar fasciitis), in those who are sedentary as well as those who are active.

Heel pain can be the result of bony abnormality (Haglund's deformity), an injury, or simply due to the way the foot naturally functions. There are a variety of treatment options, depending on the cause. The vast majority of heel pain can be successfully treated with stretching, NSAIDs, ice, and orthotics. For more resistive cases, cortisone injection, immobilization, extra corporal shock wave treatment, or platelet injection can be employed. Surgical release of the plantar fascia, microtenotomy, or bone spur resection would be reserved for the most severe cases.

As podiatrists, we are extensively trained to deal with this common type of foot pain.
