This condition is technically referred to as a cavus foot and is usually caused by a neurological disorder, other medical condition such as cerebral palsy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, spina bifida, polio, muscular dystrophy, or stroke. It can also be an inherited condition. High arches can lead to hammertoes, calluses, pain, and instability. Oftentimes a simple custom-fitted orthotic can provide the support and functional control needed to alleviate painful symptoms.
A podiatrist can diagnose and treat the cause of the pain associated with high arches.
