Joint Pain and Swelling

Joint pain in the foot may be caused by any number of conditions or combination of conditions such as injury, arthritis, gout, infection, abnormal foot function, or inflammation. Joint swelling is the result of increased accumulation of fluid in or around the joint from an injury, arthritis, gout, infection, or inflammation.

Once the cause has been determined, a podiatrist can prescribe appropriate treatment options that may include oral anti-inflammatory medication, custom orthotics, physical therapy, or surgery if the condition is severe and does not respond to conservative care. Again, a podiatrist is best suited to properly diagnose and treat this condition.
